ANNOUNCEMENT AND REGULATIONS
OF THE 17TH SEGHIZZI INTERNATIONAL CHAMBER MUSIC COMPETITION
FOR SOLO VOICE AND PIANO
Solo Voice Competition 2019

Art. 1

Only singers born after 16th July 1984 can enter the competition.

 

Art. 2

The repertoire shall consist of music originally composed for solo voice with piano accompaniment and performed in its original musical version and language with particular reference to the Lieder repertoire. Therefore, opera music or its transcription is absolutely excluded, except for the “Renaissance Prize” (see art. 11 – Programme)

 

Art. 3

If requested by the singers, the Organizing Committee will provide a pianist.

 

Art. 4

The competition is not categorized into different vocal registers..

 

Art. 5

Closing date for receipt of completed applications is midnight of 31st May 2019.

 

Art. 6

The Artistic Board reserves the right to ask for the replacement of pieces which do not comply with these Regulations.

 

Art. 7

The performances of the competition will take place at the headquarters of Seghizzi Association in Gorizia, Corso Verdi 85. All performances are open to the public. Semi-finals: on Tuesday 16th July 2019 Finals: on Wednesday 17th July 2019. Prize-giving ceremony and concert of the winners: on Wednesday 17th July 2019 at 21.00.

 

Art. 8

Contestants are responsible for their own travel and accommodation costs and for those of their accompanist).

 

Art. 9

The Organizing Committee will offer lunch and dinner to all finalist contestants and their accompanist on 17th July 2019.

 

Art. 10

The International Jury will consist of five members chosen among musicians and personalities from the musical scene.

 

Art. 11

Contestants shall perform a programme consisting of TWO pieces for each round:

 

SEMI-FINAL

a1) a composition for solo voice with piano accompaniment written between 1400 and 1650

OR

a2) a composition for solo voice with piano accompaniment written in the 18th century (1701-1800)

 

  1. b) a composition for solo voice with piano accompaniment written in the 19th century (1801-1900)

 

FINAL

 

  1. c) a composition for solo voice with piano accompaniment written in the 19th century (1801-1900). This composition has to be different from the one submitted for the same period in the semi-final

 

  1. d) a composition for solo voice with piano accompaniment written in the 20th century (from 1901 to the present day)

 

 

  • The duration of the programme for each round shall not exceed about 10 minutes.

 

  • Instead of one composition it is allowed to perform two short pieces if they belong to a single series. This replacement can be done only for one of the two pieces submitted for each competition round (semi-final and final). In any case the overall duration of the performance for each round must not exceed 10 minutes.

 

  • Please read carefully also the section regarding the special prizes before filling in the application form.

 

 

Art. 12

Contestants have to email their application to Segreteria del concorso di canto cameristico Seghizzi at info.seghizzi@gmail.com by midnight of 31st May 2019. Applications have to include the following:

  1. complete personal information and contact details (name, surname, place and date of birth, permanent address, phone and/or mobile phone number, email address) along with a copy of the ID card or passport;
  2. a list of the scores submitted for the Semi-final and the Final with complete information about the Authors and the year the compositions were written;
  3. a readable copy in PDF format of each score submitted;
  4. personal information of the possible instrumentalist accompanying the singer (name, surname, permanent address);
  5. a detailed curriculum vitae including also any artistic experiences;
  6. a passport-size photo in jpg format possibly.

 

All required information and materials have to be emailed at info.seghizzi@gmail.com.

No single score sheets will be accepted: each composition has to be sent in single PDF document.

 

Art. 13

When applying for the competition, contestants have to pay an entry fee of Euro 20,00 (twenty).  The payment has to be made in advance on the current account n. 100000002714 ABI 03069 CAB 12499 CIN N of Intesa Sanpaolo S.p.A. Corso Verdi 104, 34170 Gorizia – bank account holder’s name: Associazione Corale Goriziana “C.A. Seghizzi”. For payments from abroad the IBAN number is IT59N0306912499100000002714 and the BIC/SWIFT code is BCITITMM. If contestants require a pianist, they have to pay an entry fee of Euro 40,00 (forty). Please note that any bank charge related to the payment of the entry fee must be paid by the applicants.

 

Art. 14

The performance order will be publicly decided by lot in the presence of the representatives of the Organizing Committee and the Artistic Board at 11 a.m. on 16th July 2019 at the Seghizzi Association’s Headquarters, Corso Verdi 85, Gorizia. Contestants have to be present at the draw.

 

Art. 15

During the Semifinals the Jury members will judge the performances in an absolutely individual way using numerical marks expressed in hundredths. The ranking list will result from the arithmetic average of the scores without the highest and the lowest mark.

At least the first 12 (twelve) semi-finalists will be eligible to enter the Final.

 

Art. 16

During the Final the Jury will proceed as in the previous round. In the case of an ex-aequo or of a difference of one point in the ranking list the Jury will collegially decide the first six qualified, for whom there can be no ex- aequo.

 

Art. 17

The judgement of the Jury is unquestionable. However, the members of the Jury will abstain from voting when their role turns out to be incompatible with respect to one or more contestants.

 

Art. 18

The first six finalists have to attend the the prize-giving ceremony and perform during the Gala concert on 17th July 2019.

 

 

Art. 19

1st Prize          Euro 2,000 Certificate and plate or trophy

2nd Prize         Euro 1,000 Certificate and plate or trophy

3rd Prize         Euro    500 Certificate and plate or trophy

4th Prize          Euro    200 Certificate and plate

5th Prize          Euro    200 Certificate and plate

6th Prize          Euro    200 Certificate and plate

For the first three classified the Organizing Committee will promote as much as possible their results among musical and cultural institutions both in Italy and abroad as well as with press and mass media, so as to favour their prospective concert engagements.

 

Art. 20.

 

Contestants will be assigned a merit range according to the scores given by the Jury members:

 

Golden Medal               from 90 to 100 points

Silver Medal                 from 80 to 89 points

Bronze Medal               from 65 to 79 points

 

SPECIAL PRIZES

 

RENAISSANCE PRIZE for the best performance in the semi-final (a1)

18TH CENTURY PRIZE for the best performance in the semi-final (a2)

19TH CENTURY PRIZE for the best performance in the final (c)

20TH CENTURY PRIZE for the best performance in the final (d)

 

“AUGUSTO SEGHIZZI” PRIZE

awarded for the programme of highest artistic interest

 

“CECILIA SEGHIZZI” – DUO PRIZE

for the best finalist chamber ensemble (soloist and pianist), provided that, obviously, the pianist is not the one provided by the Organizing Committee.

 

PRIZE for the best Italian finalist

 

PRIZE for the best contestant from Friuli Venezia Giulia

 

PRIZE for the best piano accompanist

 

PRIZE for the youngest finalist

 

THESE SPECIAL PRIZES COULD INCLUDE CASH PRIZES, ALSO IN THE FORM OF STUDY GRANTS, IF THERE ARE PUBLIC OR PRIVATE SPONSORS READY TO SUPPORT THEM.

 

 

Art. 21

The Organizing Committee reserves the right to make audio and video recordings of the music performed during the competition and the Gala Concert for radiophonic, discographic and television purposes and for subsequent broadcast in Italy and abroad without any payment for the performers.

 

Art. 22

The Organizing Committee reserves the right to modify these regulations because of technical, artistic or organizational reasons. Contestants will be promptly informed.

 

Art. 23

Participation in the competition implies full knowledge and complete acceptance of these regulations.
